Walk Against Hunger
Posted by on February 23, 2009
This year’s Walk Against Hunger will take place on Saturday April 11th, starting at the Eakins Oval opposite the Philadelphia Museum of Art on Benjamin Franklin Parkway.
Sponsored by the Greater Philadelphia Coalition Against Hunger, the annual walk brings people together to raise funds that assist struggling families in our region with food. The money raised at the Walk Against Hunger is distributed to organizations throughout Southeastern Pennsylvania and Southern New Jersey that provide food and other services to families and individuals.
Last year’s walk raised over $250,000 that benefited 100 feeding programs throughout the area. Beneficiary organizations, staffed almost entirely by volunteers, provide more than 41,000 meals per day to people in need. The annual event is the only major fundraising event for many of the beneficiary groups.
Groups seeking to organize a team at their school or workplace, or among family and friends, should click here for more information. Participants do not need to be part of a team to Walk Against Hunger, and individuals can register here.
The Walk Against Hunger website also has information about how to collect contributions, creating a personal Walk web page, and downloading the contribution form. Supporters can also purchase a Walk t-shirt through the website, or donate directly to the cause.
Major sponsors of the event include Sodexo, KYW Newsradio, MyPhl17, and United Way of Southeastern Pennsylvania.
