Voting in 2010: Lessons Learned

With the election dust settling and the GOP now in control of the House what were the biggest issues at the polls this year?

Tova Andrea Wang, a Senior Democracy Fellow at Demos, in a new brief, Voting in 2010: Lessons Learned, dissects, among other things, the numerous allegations of rampant voter fraud and the ulterior motives of conservative activists’ heated rhetoric surrounding voting and registration. Now that the elections are over, the report asks, where is the fraud that the fear-mongerers trumpeted?

The report also looks at the role of anti-immigrant sentiment, voter registration barriers, confusion over provisional ballots and deceptive practices. There was a lot of good too, and the report examines progress made for military and overseas voters and improvement among election administrators and the DOJ in responding to voter intimidation.
