Volunteers needed: Yam Festival
Posted by on September 5, 2003
The Yam Festival is a traditional harvest festival that occurs in all Yam-eating societies. Our Theme this year is ‘OUR FOOD – OUR FARMS.’ Traditionally, villagers would showcase their arts and crafts, demonstrate dance, and make music. This year’s Festival is to continue this wonderful tradition while addressing the needs of or 21st Century urban village. The Festival will take place on September 20th and 21st between 11:00 AM and 9:00 PM on Saturday and 11:00 AM and 4:00 PM on Sunday. The Yam Festival will be on historic South Street from Broad Street to 17th Street.
In keeping with tradition, we have invited many of our region’s top artisans and craftsman to participate in this year’s Yam Festival. The sharing of food is one of the most important aspects of the Yam Festival, and, this year we have all of Philadelphia’s finest Hotels and Restaurants participating. There is an opportunity to learn some old world healing techniques, see and hear talented, learned, professional presenters who are keeping these methods of traditional healing alive. We will include many activities for children also 15 hours of non-stop music, dance and poetry.
All Vendors are welcome to vend. Please call: 215-545-0765 for applications. Also we are asking for volunteers who can call at the same telephone number.
