Volunteers Needed: Write Away Digital Literacy Mentors – Aug 31
Posted by Write Away on August 25, 2020
Write Away is on a mission to close the digital divide by creating opportunities for learners of all ages to use digital tools for writing and expression. This is especially important now as many school districts have announced that their fall semester will be fully virtual – equity and access issues that existed before are in plain sight, and the consequences of the digital divide seem all the more urgent to address.
Write Away’s Digital Literacy Mentorship program takes action to address this issue. Through an entirely virtual program, Write Away pairs students in grades 6-12 with a college student mentor who meets with them for 18 virtual 1-hour sessions (2-3 meetings per week for 6 to 9 weeks). Mentors coach and guide their mentees through a series of writing tasks aimed to promote digital literacy, provide opportunities for self-expression, and foster a love for writing.
Write Away is currently recruiting Digital Literacy Mentors (college students) for the Fall 2020 session, with New Mentor Training taking place in September and the official program starting in October.
The Digital Literacy Mentor application for Fall 2020 is currently open: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSf4-3cwMXiFFrZm3-A_EFzbyYGNvFqFOFG5gTON3s1kWy_kqg/viewform
