Volunteers Needed, winter emergency shelter
Posted by on December 15, 2006
For the second winter, Project H.O.M.E. was asked by the City of Philadelphia Office of Supportive Housing to partner with the Arch Street United Methodist Church to implement a short term overnight drop-in center during the coldest winter months (The Grace Caf?). The Grace Caf? will be a resource for people who are homeless, extremely vulnerable and unwilling or unable to enter the regular shelter system. The Caf? will be located within Arch Street United Methodist Church building on Broad and Arch Streets and will operate 7 nights per week from 10pm to 6am from December through April. The purpose of the caf? is to provide a safe, warm space in which folks can build community and eventually accept housing and other services. We are very excited that Project H.O.M.E. has this opportunity for additional engagement with folks living on the streets in an effort to further reduce homelessness.
With the onset of winter, Project H.O.M.E. also intensifies our outreach efforts. We ask that you help us face this challenge head-on: If you see a homeless person in need, please call Project H.O.M.E.’s Outreach Hotline, 215-232-1984. Our outreach teams will work to assist that person in getting off the streets.
Volunteer to serve food to homeless men and women at the Grace Caf? (see information above). Contact Heather Warley, Arch Street United Methodist Church Volunteer Coordinator, at 215-568-6250 or hap2c@virginia.edu for more information.
