Tax campaign needs volunteer tax preparers
Impact Services is recruiting volunteers interested in helping economically disadvantaged people increase their wealth and keep the money they earn for its 2009 Volunteers in Tax Preparation Program, part of the Campaign for Working Families.
Last year, Impact helped over 700 taxpayers in the community get back more than $1 million in tax refunds at no cost to the tax payer. The program not only helps taxpayers maximize their return through the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC), but also saves them the often very high costs of having their taxes done by a private tax preparer.
To volunteer as a tax preparer, you need to be certified through the IRS Link and Learn program or The Benefit Bank. Volunteers are asked to commit to at least 8 tax preparation sessions between January 20th and April 14th. Sessions are held on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4–7:30pm and on Saturdays from 9am– 2pm.
