Chester group seeks inmate education volunteers
The Thresholds Prison Inmate Education Program in Delaware County uses volunteers to teach decision-making skills to incarcerated adults and teens, and is currently seeking volunteer instructors.
The group will hold a two-day training session the weekend of Feb. 8th. Volunteer instructors do not need teaching experience. The goal is to help inmates learn new behavior skills that develop their ability to think through a scenario rather than react to a situation impulsively.
The program is delivered in a one-on-one setting over a period of seven or eight weeks. Group classes are also offered. All sessions take place in safe environments within one of three prisons in Delaware County.
Volunteer instructors must be at least 18 years old. No special skills are needed, except a desire to help others.
The next volunteer training session will be held at Neumann University in Aston. For more information, go here.
