Volunteers Needed: Stein/Maddox Barbecue Challenge

We?re looking for volunteers to spend part of Saturday, August 6 at Citizens Bank Park with the Neil Stein/Garry Maddox Barbecue Challenge. This fun-filled event?pitting more than 20 restaurants and an equal number of amateurs against one another to see who makes the greatest chicken, ribs, and pulled pork?raises money for the Youth Golf & Academics Program, an organization founded by former Phillies centerfielder Garry Maddox to provide academic support and enrichment services to inner-city youth.

Each registered volunteer will receive one ticket to the day?s game (Philadelphia Phillies vs. Milwaukee Brewers at 7:05 p.m.), along with an event apron. Volunteers must be at least 16 years old, but parents may bring a child along as long as they can man their post and supervise the child at the same time.

Volunteers are needed for the following activities:

Registration/information table (to register contestants, judges, and volunteers, & handle info requests throughout the day). Activity at the registration/information table will ebb & flow throughout the day.

7 a.m. ? 10 a.m. 2 people
10 a.m. ? 1 p.m. 2 people
1 p.m. ? 4 p.m. 2 people
4 p.m. ? 7 p.m. 2 people

Food ticket sales
3:30 p.m. ? 6:45 p.m. 6 people (will be handling cash–must be responsible & able to make change accurately and quickly)

Parking lots & ball park access points–flyer distribution
4:30 p.m. ? 6:45 p.m. 34 people

Runners for judging area
2:30 p.m. ? 6:45 p.m. 5 people

Talliers for judging (will be calculating scores?must be able to add & average accurately & quickly)
2:45 ? 6:45 p.m. 7 people
