Dear Volunteer,
The PA College Access Challenge (PA CACGP) Team’s Walk for Success is the flagship program of
Project GRAD, USA working in partnership with the PA Department of Education, PHEAA and the
School District of Philadelphia. To accomplish the Walk for Success, volunteer teams will spend Saturday
morning, March 20th, conducting a door-to door campaign visiting the homes of every ninth grade student
at Sayre High School.
A key component of the Walk is the Covenant. Parents of ninth grade students are asked to sign a threeway
covenant among GRAD/PACACGP, parents, and Sayre High School, committing them to actions in
support of academic excellence, proficient or advanced PSSA scores and college preparation. Prior to
March 20th, families will receive a sample document with information regarding the Walk and Door-to
Door visits. During the brief visit, volunteer teams will invite parents to sign the official covenant if they
have not already done so.
The participation of volunteers from a cross-section of the community including principals, teachers,
other staff, district administrators, school business partners, college/university partners, parents, older
students, and other community members help to ensure the success of this event. The walk concludes with
a College Readiness Rally raising the community’s awareness of and support for GRAD’s work in the
school district, which fosters relationship building and empowers students, parents, and community
stakeholders and the greater community to achieve their educational goals! The rally will take place at
Widener University and transportation, food, beverages, prize giveaways and entertainment will be
provided, so please RSVP to save your seat!
Please join us as we support the Class of 2014 in their academic success at Sayre High School.
Graduation Really Achieves Dreams! If you are interested in volunteering for the Walk for Success
on March 20th from 8:00AM – 11:30AM please call or email Rechelle Williams to be included in the
training session. If you are not able to attend the walk but would like to attend the rally at Widener
University, please RSVP by March 15, 2010 to [email protected] or call 267-690-2624 and
leave your message on my voice mail. We hope you will join us!
Sincerely,
Rechelle Williams
