volunteers needed, Logan CDC Neighborhood Plan

Posted by on November 18, 2013

Logan CDC has received a grant from the Wells Fargo Regional Foundation to complete a comprehensive neighborhood plan for Logan, which will position the neighborhood for support during the City’s 2015 District planning and position Logan CDC for future implementation dollars. Plans for the comprehensive neighborhood plan are well underway and we’ve been receiving a lot of positive feedback from residents and stakeholders. The Resident Surveys are a key part of the planning process. We are seeking between 20-25 volunteers to go door to door and conduct surveys. This is a great opportunity for students or student groups (clubs, sports teams, fraternities or sororities) seeking volunteer opportunities or community service projects.

To give you some more background, it’s a two step process. The first is identifying and training volunteers on how to complete the process. The second part is the actual survey period, which typically takes 4-6 weeks, working 3-4 shifts a week with about 20-25 volunteers.  We will be surveying up to 650 households in Logan. The homes are selected at random with the goal of gathering 263 surveys (out of the 650 homes). Ideally, we’d like 10 groups of 2 people to conduct the surveys. Volunteers that speak the languages prevalent in the neighborhood are a plus. We will have surveys translated into Spanish and Chinese.

The more volunteers we mobilize, the more homes we will be able to address per week. Provided we get the numbers we need, we hope to begin training in the next two weeks. The training is one day and survey shifts would begin that week. Shifts would be either 2pm-5pm or 3pm-6pm during three days of the week, and 10am-3pm on Saturdays. Ideally, we’d like volunteers to be available on a consistent basis for 6 weeks (excluding holidays) for one of all of the shifts.
