Volunteers Needed, Income Tax Assistance for Low-Income Families
Posted by on December 15, 2006
Help fight poverty and move a family toward self-sufficiency
Become a VITA Volunteer and help low-income families file their taxes so they can claim the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC). The EITC lifts 5 million families out of poverty every year. As a VITA Volunteer, you will gain important skills and provided a needed service to the community.
PHENND is heavily involved in VITA efforts in Delaware County but volunteers are needed all over our region – in Philadelphia, Bucks, Montgomery, and Chester Counties as well!
In Delaware County:
For more information about VITA and to see the site locations and hours of operation for Spring 2007, visit http://www.upenn.edu/ccp/PHENND/initiatives/finoutreach/vita.html
In Philadelphia:

For Bucks, Chester, or Montgomery Counties (and for that matter anywhere else in Pennsylvania), contact Hillary Aisenstein at hillarya@pobox.upenn.edu.
P.S. You don’t need to be an accounting major to do this! VITA volunteering has been a successful service-learning component of Sociology of Poverty to Accounting 101 to Business Spanish. If you are interested in integrating income tax prep and other similar services for low-income families into your Spring courses, contact Hillary at 215-573-2379.
