Volunteers Needed for Career Fair

Posted by on April 7, 2006

The students and staff of the Office of College & Career Awareness, School District of Philadelphia would be honored if you would participate in our 2nd Annual Career Fair for ninth grade students, May 4-5, 2006 at the Enterprise Center in West Philadelphia.

Because of the limited exposure to various careers that many of our students have had, we are seeking representation from a variety of industries to expose them to as many careers as possible on all levels over these two days. We are not asking that one individual participate over both days of the event but perhaps two or three of your colleagues would interested in one of the available dates. The benefit for you the employer is the opportunity to engage and impact your future workforce now.

Please prepare to share with the students, your occupational description, average annual salary information for an entry level, mid-level, and experienced employee; the training/educational level required, the type of work conducted on a typical day, human relations, etc.

The day will begin at 9:00 a.m. all participating employers will man a booth in the Expo hall, similar to a ?job fair?. Students will visit your reserved area to obtain hard copy information about your career or to ask individual questions about the career. Students will cycle through the Expo hall for the fair in thirty minute intervals. Following their time in the Expo hall students will participate in Career exploration seminars prior to returning to school. The day should end about 2:00 p.m. Continental breakfast and lunch will be provided.

If you are interested and can commit to the cause, please respond to Tabenah Washington, Direct Service Coordinator, via email at tmwashington@phila.k12.pa.us, or by phone at (215) 951-7770 ext. 390 by April 21, 2006. Thank you.
