S. Jersey food bank needs volunteers
The Food Bank of South Jersey (FBSJ) is sponsoring the Summer Feeding Program to help food-insecure children who rely on the free and reduced price meal program in the schools during the academic year. It aims to help 1300 children make it through the summer, when the school meals are done. This year, they have decided do the prep themselves.
FBSJ needs volunteers to help in the food prep and packing during the 40 days in the summer that the program will run. They don’t expect volunteers to come in every day, but they need as many as possible given how many sandwiches have to be made. The food prep will be done in an air conditioned kitchen in Pennsauken, with plenty of parking.
FBSJ is asking for volunteers to work in 3-4 hour shifts and will provide basic food handling training.
Volunteers are need from the 16th of June through the end of August. For more information or to volunteer, email Beth McMillan at [email protected].
