Volunteers needed, Breakthrough of Greater Philadelphia

Breakthrough is a six-year academic program that begins in middle school when our high-potential, low-income 7th and 8th graders are taught by outstanding high school and college students.  The program builds a path to college for its younger students while inspiring older students to become educators and engaged citizens.

We are starting our recruiting effort for undergraduates to teach and tutor in our spring School Year Program.

Volunteers teach social studies classes of 10-15 middle school students once a week and/or two Saturdays. The deadline to apply is Thursday, January 31st.

If they would prefer, undergraduates can also work one-on-one with high school students as tutors. They can find those opportunities here: http://breakthroughphilly.org/get-involved/volunteer.

Through a partnership with the Fox Leadership program, it is possible that transportation may be provided to students from Penn to the Breakthrough sites at the Germantown Friends School and St. Joseph’s University.
