Volunteers needed, Big Brothers Big Sisters’ LGBTQ Program
Posted by Big Brothers Big Sisters Independence Region on August 6, 2018
Big Brothers Big Sisters Independence Region provides children facing adversity with professionally supported
mentoring relationships to change their lives for the better. Research has consistently demonstrated that LGBTQ youth are at higher risks in a number of areas that impede healthy and safe development. BBBS IR is partnering with local schools to support our LGBTQ Youth. We are looking for responsible caring adults who identify as part of LGBTQ community to be role models and advisors to high school GSAs (Gender and Sexuality Alliances). Volunteers should be 28 years of age or older. As an advisor, you will be required to attend regular GSA meetings at schools for a minimum of one academic year. You will be listening, offering insight, and helping our LGBTQ youth achieve their goals and realize their full potential.

Our community-based Program:
If you are interested in being a mentor, but unable to participate in LGBTQ Program you may consider our Community Based Program. We match youth in a 1 to 1 friendship with safe and caring mentors. Matches
get together 2-4 times a month for a minimum or year to do fun low cost activities together in the community. We serve youth in Burlington, Camden, Chester, Delaware, Gloucester, Montgomery, and Philadelphia counties.
