Volunteers Needed: Adult Education Tutors
Posted by City of Philadelphia on October 29, 2024
Adult Education Tutors support adult learners with English for Speakers of Other Languages, Adult Basic Education, GED test prep, and/or basic digital skills. Before being matched with a learner, tutors complete an online 12-hour course and receive a digital credential through the City of Philadelphia’s Mayor’s Office of Education. Once matched, tutors will have the support of the education provider and will have access to ongoing professional development opportunities.
The adult education tutor training course covers the foundational theories and practices of tutoring adult learners with achieving their goals. Adult learning goals include finding gainful employment, participating more fully in society, entering academic/vocational programs, supporting their children’s education, among others. Volunteers may serve as personal tutors, classroom aides, or other support roles for adult learners working to achieve their goals.
