Volunteer to be a Reading Captain

Will you be a Reading Captain?
Read by 4th initiative connects local volunteers with students to bring their reading up to grade level
In June 2017, nearly two thirds of Philadelphia School District students entering the fourth grade were unable to read at grade level. The Urban Affairs Coalition and the Read By 4th campaign are working to close the gap this summer by recruiting volunteers to be Reading Captains.
Will you be a Reading Captain?
The Read By 4th campaign is a local initiative of over 90 partner organizations – managed by the Free Library of Philadelphia – working to increase the number of students reading at grade level before entering the fourth grade. Reading Captains, similar to Block Captains, are members of the community who actively work to connect families to resources that will help children become great readers. Global Citizen, a UAC Program Partner, works with Read by 4th to provide support and assistance to Reading Captain volunteers.
