Volunteer: Join Urban Tree Connection’s Board of Directors

Posted by Urban Tree Connection on January 14, 2020

Interested in serving on a non-profit board? Have experience in finance/accounting? Urban Tree Connection is looking for new candidates to join the Board of Directors.

Urban Tree Connection (UTC) is a grassroots non-profit organization, founded in 1989, whose mission is to work with residents in Philadelphia’s historically marginalized urban communities to transform abandoned open spaces into safe and functional places that inspire and promote positive human interaction. UTC has partnered with residents in the Haddington neighborhood of West Philadelphia over the last two decades to redevelop 29 vacant lots into community-driven greening and gardening spaces, including our ¾ acre urban farm. Together, we have repurposed these spaces for communal gathering, sustainable food production, and multi-generational community health and wellness education.

UTC is currently seeking Board candidates who are interested in advising, governing, overseeing policy and direction, and assisting with the leadership and general promotion of Urban Tree Connection so as to support the organization’s mission and needs.

UTC’s Board of Directors welcomes any interested candidates! If there are candidates who have experience/expertise in finance and accounting, please indicate this experience when you apply, as we are interested in considering candidates for Board Treasurer.

UTC aims to have a board that is reflective of the community it is a part of and thus centers the leadership of Black people and people of color; women; and working class folks. In 2020, our goal is to increase our board membership with residents that live in Haddington/West Philadelphia. While UTC’s Board is welcoming to a variety of people from various backgrounds and experiences, at this time we are explicitly looking to balance our board’s diversity in the noted areas above. We are looking for Board members with a diversity of skillsets and professional experiences that are in alignment with our mission and vision for a more equitable society.

If you are interested in learning more about UTC, the Board of Directors, and the application process, please email utcboard@urbantreeconnection.org. In your email, please indicate your interest in joining the Board, and please attach your current professional resume.
