The ASPIRA ZipCode is a student-driven, community newspaper which delivers news about education, activism, arts and entertainment to the communities of ASPIRA Schools and the surrounding neighborhoods in North Philadelphia. In last year’s issue, students interviewed a variety of community stakeholders as well as policy-makers like Farah Jimenez of the School Reform Commission and Mayor Kenney.
The May 2017 issue will focus on career options for graduating seniors. We are looking for professionals from all areas to give interviews with student-journalists about their work, education and personal life. So far, we’ve interviewed everyone from police officers to tattoo artist, so don’t hesitate to contact us about your work!
We may ask to photograph the interview subjects as well as their projects and/or places of businesses. We are also open to writing submissions and pursuing stories about other community events and initiatives, so please reach out for more.
A digital copy of the previous issue can be downloaded at the bottom of this page: http://www.aspirapa.org/
