Silver Wheels program helps older adults get around
Many vibrant older adults can no longer drive and therefore they need help getting around. Designed to enhance the efforts of Jewish Children and Family Services to enable seniors to live independently and stay in their communities, Silver Wheels provides transportation for shopping, medical appointments, banking, visiting friends and loved ones in hospitals, and so much more. Silver Wheels is much more than just a ride—it’s independence, community connection, mobility, and dignity.
A key component of the program is its volunteer drivers. Silver Wheels uses a web based appointment system which matches a senior’s need for transportation with a volunteer driver’s desire to drive someone within a particular geographic area. Volunteer drivers go online and choose their client and the trip they are willing to offer.
JFCS is currently looking for drivers to be a part of this innovative new program. Mileage reimbursement & secondary auto insurance is provided.
