Volunteer Coordinator
Summary
The volunteer coordinator supports NTR’s work clients, interns, and volunteers. This includes recruiting, coordinating with feeder agencies, training, coaching, utilization, and evaluation.
Essential functions
1. Work with local social, civic and workforce organizations to find and/or utilize work clients, interns, and volunteers (hence “Volunteers”).
2. Develop and deliver programs and curricula to train Volunteers.
3. Maintains updated records on all Volunteers.
4. Set up and chair Volunteer meetings. Reports to staff on Volunteer activities as needed.
5. Recommend and develop Volunteer utilization, both for one‐time projects and ongoing productivity.
6. Develop and implement Volunteer recognition and retention programs.
7. Occasionally assist other departments or perform other tasks, as assigned.
Environment
1. This position does not supervise staff, but does supervise the entire Volunteer force.
2. Operating environments include office, warehouse, production shop, classroom, and off‐site locations.
3. This position includes occasional lifting, manipulating, and/or moving of objects up to 25 pounds.
4. This is a full‐time, exempt position, with an anticipated schedule of 8:30‐5:30 Tuesday through Saturday.
Requirements
1. Bachelor’s degree in a related field (communications, nonprofit management, social work, etc.) and/or 2 years of closely related experience, with a combination of the two preferred.
2. Effective communication skills: community outreach strategy, composition, and public speaking.
3. Demonstrated patience, diplomacy, approachability, professionalism, and a positive attitude.
4. Full competency of information and business skills including: email, calendaring, document creation/editing, filing, and team collaboration.
5. Ability to learn additional database systems, including contacts database and point of sale.
6. Ability to remain organized, friendly, and productive while working under pressure, in a distracting environment, and with people from a variety of ethnic, cultural, educational, and socioeconomic origins.
7. Helpful but not required: prior IS/IT knowledge or experience, ability to speak Spanish.
