GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

Broad Street Ministry (BSM) is faith-based 501(c)3 that addresses the needs of vulnerable individuals and families, extends inclusive hospitality, fosters community, cherishes creativity, and works for a more just world through civic engagement.

This is a newly created position, which is responsible for overseeing all duties related to recruiting and managing volunteers to assist with BSM’s programming. This position will also play a critical role in BSM’s development team by overseeing BSM’s small donor individual giving campaign and working with the Managing Director and other staff to cultivate the giving of goods and funds from businesses/corporations and faith-based institutions.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Volunteer Management
•    Organize the volunteer program by developing and implementing policies and procedures for recruiting, training, orienting, managing, documenting, retaining, and acknowledging volunteers.
•    Engage the community by promoting, recruiting, and screening volunteers from businesses, schools, faith institutions, etc.
•    Lead the volunteer program/service through facilitating effective working relationships between staff and volunteers, orienting volunteers to increase their understanding of BSM, managing risks to volunteers, ensuring a safe environment, and developing a volunteer program budget.
•    At times, supervise work study students and interns to help with administrative duties related to the volunteer program and development.
•    For programs that utilize a majority of volunteers to deliver services, for example, BSM’s weekly meals and social services for homeless men and women, help coordinate operations or oversee key volunteers to coordinate operations.

Development
•    Oversee small donor cultivation and giving by working with the Managing Director to set annual goals for giving by this sector and developing and implementing a plan to reach this goal.
•    Meet the goals set annually for amount of revenue raised, with a goal of deepening relationships and securing more gifts from small donors.
•    Research donors to determine capacity and affinity for organization.
•    Develop and implement strategies for engaging individual and corporate volunteers to donate money and in-kind contributions and to become further involved in other BSM programming.
•    Lead at minimum two annual appeals through direct mail; track, monitor, and evaluate results of mailings; identify and implement new approaches to direct mail campaigns.
•    Establish and implement guidelines for small donor stewardship and recognition; create acknowledgement letters and develop means of stewardship for donors.
•    Manage BSM donor database (E-Tapestry) and donor thank you process to ensure accurate and timely responses to donations.
•    Secure donations of food and personal care supplies from businesses and coordinate volunteer drivers to transport donated goods to BSM.
•    As part of the BSM development team, work closely with the Managing Director to help establish annual development goals with budgets, action plans, methods, and materials to ensure a diversity of funding sources to support BSM including.
•    Work as a team member with other development personnel, providing support and information as needed.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS REQUIRED:
•    Minimum of three (3) years experience in non-profit development with a demonstrated track record implementing and growing small and mid-size individual giving campaigns.
•    At least two or more years of successful volunteer management experience.
•    Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university strongly preferred but may be substituted for years of relevant experience.
•    Experience in social services environment preferred
•    Social services program management and event management experience a plus
•    Highly self-motivated, high energy level, strong sense of initiative, able to work independently as well as collaboratively with minimal supervision.
•    Creative problem solving skills, flexibility, and a sense of humor.
•    Very strong attention to detail and commitment to leading the creation and execution of a fast paced volunteer program and small donor development campaign.
•    Superior organizational and time and project management skills; with the ability to multi-task and think strategically
•    Ability to meet deadlines and motivate/support volunteers.
•    Effective leadership, team-building and supervisory skills.
•    Must have superior verbal communication and relationship building skills with strong customer-service orientation, tact, diplomacy and flexibility.
•    Ability to relate to people from diverse backgrounds
•    Strong written communication skills.
•    Strong presentation skills preferred
•    Computer Skills Required: Word, Excel, Internet, and relational databases.
•    Desired Computer Skills: PowerPoint
•    Ability to utilize and manage donor management software, particularly E-Tapestry, is strongly preferred.
•    Willing to work weekends and nights when needed
