Job Description

Wilkes University will be hosting a Pennsylvania Campus Compact (PACC) VISTA member for a one year commitment from August 24, 2004 to August 30, 2005. The PACC-VISTA at Wilkes University will provide a variety of service opportunities that will match University students with appropriate meaningful experiences in the community. An emphasis for the 2004-2005 year is placed on the Financial Independence Program that works with low-income families, senior citizens, elementary, middle, and high school students.

Duties and responsibilities include:
? Project planning and implementation
? Develop and document Financial Independence program curriculum
? Recruitment, training, and supervision of volunteers
? Identify student leaders, student organizations, and courses in order to sustain the program
? Outreach and recruitment of Financial Independence program participants
? Serving as a liaison between campus and community agencies/schools
? Managing project budgets
? Conducting assessment of program initiatives
? Assisting in the management of the Office of Community Service
? Supervising and leading programs for the Community Service House
? Participate in National Days of Service (including Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service, National Volunteer Week, Youth Service Day, and Make a Difference Day)

Skills and Experience Needed:
? Bachelors degree or equivalent experience
? Strong interest and experience in community service/service-learning
? Accounting, business, or education degree or equivalent experience preferred
? Knowledge, interest, and prior experience working with college students, a range of populations and ages, and low-income individuals
? Excellent organizational skills including training, project management, public speaking, event planning and implementation
? Excellent interpersonal skills
? Excellent written and oral communication skills
? Must be able to work well with a team as well as independently
? Experience with internet and Microsoft Office software
