Job Description:
Position Summary:
United Way of Greater Philadelphia and Southern New Jersey in Delaware County works to create a better life for all, but this cannot be accomplished without the input and engagement from cross-sector partnerships. In an effort to increase the ability to educate and engage the general public in issues that affect us all, United Way seeks to enhance the ability to convene and mobilize volunteers to affect change. The volunteerism engagement effort works to: 1) increase awareness; 2) educate and provide avenues for greater understanding of local community issues; and 3) act – mobilize volunteers to make positive changes to systems that do not work.
Key Responsibilities:
Volunteerism and Civic Engagement:
Assist in development of marketing tools for individual volunteer engagement.
Build relationships with area college students that foster new and innovative group volunteer projects.
Assist in creation of new Day of Caring projects.
Create individual volunteer experience tools (marketing and tracking Web-based products).
Use social networking tools to communicate project/ program to public.
Community Organizing:
Expand engagement strategies in United Way’s Community Organization Committee.
Conduct primary and secondary research in evaluation of pressing social issues affecting Delaware County.
Assist in development and implementation of sustainable projects/events.
Improve community awareness of social issues through outreach and communications.
Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Job Requirements:
Education/Experience:
Bachelors Degree preferred
Skills:
Self-motivated and ambitious attitude;
Strong written and verbal communication skills;
Strong computer and technology skills, including strong Internet and researching skills;
Strong organizational and interpersonal skills;
Ability to work with community and corporate partners, relationship-building, and networking.
This is a full-time, 12-month term position. A three-day Pre-Service Orientation (PSO) will be held in Philadelphia in mid-August with service starting immediately after. The work hours per week are 37.5, Monday – Friday from 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. This employment opportunity is an AmeriCorps*VISTA position, there is a monthly stipend of $949, educational grant of $5,350 and health benefits.
