UCCP POWER Internship Program Coordinator

The University Community Collaborative of Philadelphia (UCCP) at Temple University is seeking a VISTA Member to Coordinate the POWER Internship, a credit bearing opportunity for high school juniors and seniors that integrates exposure to nonprofit work environments with the development of technical and academic skills that contribute to the intern’s personal growth and leadership development, and that enhance their knowledge of and ability to address issues that impact their community and city.  The VISTA will focus specifically on solidifying critical program and partnership structures and identifying funding sources to support long term project sustainability.

Responsibilities:
Coordinate key components of the POWER Internship, including:

•    Strengthen current partnerships with Philadelphia schools, and foster new ones, for the purpose of recruiting high school student interns
•    Monitor, and adapt as appropriate, the POWER Internship application process
•    Monitor, and adapt as appropriate, the POWER Internship curriculum
•    Manage Internship portfolio criteria
•    Design and execute training for college student Internship Facilitators
•    Provide on-going feedback and support to Internship Facilitators
•    Coordinate campus and community resources necessary to support internship activities
•    Maintain participant and program records
•    Develop and track project budgets
•    Coordinate the system to track intern progress
•    Serve as a liaison between the school, the interns and the college student Internship Facilitators
•    Establish connections with nonprofit organizations in the area and organize site visits
•    Work with Media Coordinator, VOICES program coordinator and Executive Director to coordinate special trainings and events for POWER Internship and other UCCP programs

Minimum Requirements for this position include:
•    Bachelors’ degree required (Education, Public Policy or Social Science degree preferred).
•    Experience in program development and project management
•    Experience in curriculum development and implementation
•    Ability and willingness to travel to Philadelphia schools and community organizations
•    Experience with and/or willingness to learn database management, recording and tracking of data
•    Strong oral and written presentation skills
•    Commitment to collaboration and problem solving
•    Knowledge  of social change and social movements preferred.
•    Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel and Powerpoint
•    Demonstrated commitment to diversity and cross-cultural issues
•    Experience working with youth and young adults
•    Grant writing experience preferred but not required

The term of service for this AmeriCorps*VISTA position is the end of July 2010 through  July 31 2011. Compensation is a living allowance of approx. $11,725 plus an education award of $5,350.  There will also be a transportation and food allowance.  To apply on line please go to  http://www.americorps.gov.
