Job Description
Position Summary: The Project & Volunteer Coordinator serves as a lead organizer of the King Day of Service Signature Site, manages initiatives to build new King Day of Service partnerships in targeted areas and assists in the management of other volunteer and service initiatives throughout the year. The ideal candidate has a background in organizing and mobilizing volunteers and is smart, energetic, organized and deeply committed to working with diverse partners. The VISTA will be a member of a cohort of SERVE Philadelphia VISTAs working with the Mayor’s Office of Civic Engagement and Volunteer Service and will be based at the Global Citizen headquarters in Center City Philadelphia. The position offers a powerful introduction to the nonprofit and public sector in Philadelphia and the opportunity to build relationships with a wide variety of community partners.
Key Responsibilities:
Develop and expand partnerships with organizations hosting service projects at the King Day of Service Signature Site.
Lead effort to significantly revise and expand MLK365 Service Clubs curricula, including creating new content and convening a committee of education and service-learning experts to review curricula.
With the guidance of Outreach & Programs manager, develop and lead strategy to establish new partnerships with organizations serving active duty military, veterans and military families.
Create new initiative to engage community partners in hosting “Sunday Supper” conversations (community-based civic dialogues focused on identifying local concerns and developing grassroots response to those concerns).
Develop and implement a new outcomes and evaluations tracking systems for King Day of Service projects, including leading an initiative to track a cohort of partner organizations year-round to tell the story of how the King Day of Service helps them to engage volunteers in an ongoing and meaningful way.
Lead planning efforts for Philadelphia AmeriCorps Week 2012, including leading AmeriCorps Week planning committee, organizing AmeriCorps Week programming and securing grants to support AmeriCorps Week activities.
Coordinate promotions and logistics for annual special events, including Global Citizen Philly Spring Clean-Up project, Beer Summit on Race in America and National Day of Service and Remembrance Civic Engagement Expo.
Minimum Job Requirements
Education/Experience:
Experience recruiting, organizing and mobilizing volunteers.
Demonstrated commitment to diversity, civic engagement and community service.
Ability to work with partners from diverse cultures and sectors.
Strong planning, organization and time management skills; ability to work independently when necessary.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Experience organizing and managing projects and working with teams.
Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel; comfortable with learning new technologies.
Bachelors’ degree required.
