VISTA Project Director, PA Campus Compact

Background:
The Pennsylvania Campus Compact (PACC) is a coalition of college and university presidents committed to the public purposes of higher education. We are searching for a full-time AmeriCorps*VISTA Project Director to administer our 18-member PACC-VISTA project. These VISTA members are based at higher education institutions around Pennsylvania and focus their work on building the capacity of their host institutions to address issues related to poverty.
The best candidate for this position will be someone who has a passion for public service, enjoys working in an environment that values collegiality, humor, and reflection, and works equally as well independently as a member of a team. The project director will be based in the Harrisburg offices of PACC, but will be required to conduct site visits throughout the state. Review of applications will begin immediately with a preferred start date of July 15, 2003.
Summary:
The PACC-VISTA Project Director will provide leadership for connecting Pennsylvania higher education institutions to address poverty in our communities. The Director will have multiple responsibilities in the following areas:
I. Administer the PACC-VISTA Project
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
– Supervising and supporing PACC-VISTA members;
– Supporting PACC-VISTA host sites and supervisors;
– Conducting regular visits to PACC-VISTA host sites;
– Writing and submitting narrative quarterly reports to on PACC-VISTA activity;
– Writing grants and developing funds to support PACC-VISTA program;
– Planning and implementing PACC-VISTA trainings and meetings, and;
– Assisting PACC Executive Director to administer PACC-VISTA grant.
II. Serve as a liaison between PACC and its national service partners
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
– Attending meetings and conferences;
– Developing collaborations;
– Promoting PACC-VISTA project, and;
– Contributing to state and national initiatives.
III. Increase capacity of PACC to serve it’s members
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
– Establish and maintain communication with PACC-VISTA members and their host sites;
– Provide information about PACC and the PACC-VISTA project to prospective members;
– Contribute to providing membership benefits to PACC institutions, and;
– Assist with organizational and programmatic sustainability.
Qualifications:
Minimum:
– College degree
– Reliable means of transportation
– Experience with Apple computer
– Knowledge of Microsoft Office software
– Ability to work independently and with teams
– Appreciation for humor in workplace
– Ability to interact with students, staff, and academic presidents
Preferred:
– All of the above
– Masters degree
– Experience as a VISTA Member
– Experience in higher education
Salary and Benefits:
Starting salary $21,000. Benefits package includes health, dental, vision, retirement and earned vacation/sick leave.
