Seeks a Program Coordinator

About the Girls Action Initiative:

Girls Action Initiative, an organization dedicated to leadership, social action, and creative self expression among young women of color in Philadelphia. We are based in the Kensington section of North Philadelphia, and have 2 afterschool programs for middle school age girls.

Job Description:

This position is a one year Americorps VISTA term beginning February 1, 2004. Americorps VISTA?s receive a monthly living stipend of $800. The Program Coordinator will work as a part of a 3 person team, and will work a Tuesday-Saturday schedule.

Job Responsibilities Include:

?planning and coordinating Wednesday Afterschool and Saturday Arts Program for middle school girls.
?conducting outreach in neighborhoods, schools, and organizations.
?assembling organizational Public Relations materials: brochures, fliers, and newsletters documenting programs
?recruiting participants and sustaining communication with participants and
parents/guardians
?co-coordinating the Youth Board
?Maintaining parent communication and involvement, coordinating monthly parent meetings

Desired Qualifications :

?Experience working with young women or with youth ages 11-14.
?Fluency in Spanish.
?Experience community organizing.
?Commitment to youth empowerment, feminist, anti-racist and anti-oppressive education
