VISTA position, PennSERVE

One VISTA will be housed with the Pennsylvania State Commission (PennSERVE: The Governor’s Office of Citizen Service) to help bring a state-wide focus to the MLK Day of Service expansion, by fostering greater collaboration and by introducing the highly successful Southeastern Pennsylvania model to three (3) to (5) additional communities. The Harrisburg-based VISTA will:

" Conduct outreach to the identified communities;
" Assist with the coordination of the various projects;
" Facilitate collaboration among community-based groups;
" Identify additional resources to support the implementation of the MLK unified approach;
" Support the coordination of the NCCC teams with the local community-based organizations;
" Assist with the evaluation and collection of data for reporting purposes; and,
" Follow-up with the community-based programs after MLK Day of Service to engage community members in on-going volunteerism and service efforts.

After the MLK Day of Service activities and follow-up, beginning approximately on February 1, 2006, the VISTA will utilize the work-product described above to facilitate continued service in the identified communities, and in underserved regions across the Commonwealth.
