Marking Five Decades of the Economic Opportunity Act
Across the country, homeownership is on the rise, more of our students are graduating from college, and more Americans are landing jobs in countless fields and industries—both traditional and cutting-edge.
Still, as we work to extend the gains of the economic recovery to more Americans, President Barack Obama has charged his administration with ensuring that our neighbors in low-income communities are not being left behind.
AmeriCorps VISTA members and Senior Corps volunteers who serve as Foster Grandparents are working hard to make sure we do just that. Every day, they ensure that the ladder to economic stability is not just climbed by a chosen few. And as the directors of these two great programs, we see firsthand the vital difference that our members make in the fight against poverty. That’s because they work alongside community members to find solutions to our country’s toughest challenges.
