VISTA 50th Anniversary Resources
Posted by Corporation for National and Community Service on
Fifty years ago, our nation’s leaders launched a program that they hoped would lead the fight against poverty. And today, the AmeriCorps VISTA program remains unmatched in its ability to create innovative solutions for low-income families and communities in every part of the country—large and small, urban and rural.
Like many of you, we have seen firsthand the remarkable capacity-building power of the AmeriCorps VISTA program as it bolsters the impact of nonprofits, schools, and faith-based organizations in every state.
This year, more than 7,000 AmeriCorps VISTA members were placed in over 2,600 sites and service locations in low-income communities across the nation. From recruiting thousands of volunteer tutors and mentors, to creating adult literacy awareness campaigns, to connecting veterans to housing and job opportunities, AmeriCorps VISTA members have helped create ladders of opportunity for millions of Americans.
Please join us as we gear up to commemorate the contributions and leadership of all our project sponsors and the 190,000 alums whose service we honor as part of the 50th anniversary of the AmeriCorps VISTA program.
While the celebration officially kicks off in February, here are a few easy ways for you to join the effort now:
1. Visit our new 50th anniversary microsite for great stories, photos, and videos featuring highlights from the AmeriCorps VISTA program’s history.
