Virtual Lunch and Learn: Intentional and Holistic Practices for Providing Basic Needs Support to Community College Students – Feb 20

The Pennsylvania Department of Education’s PA Maslow: A Hierarchy of Collegiate Basic Needs presents the “Lunch and Learn” monthly series for 2024.
We are happy to announce that the first lunch and learn will take place on February 20, 2024, from 12:00 Noon – 1:00 PM.
Presenters – Sara Shaw, MS, Resource Navigator and Mary Utter, PhD, Dean of Students, Community College of Allegheny County
This session will review the resources and practices implemented by the Community College of Allegheny County for supporting students with basic needs insecurities. The evolution of the role of our 3 full-time Resource Navigators who work with students to help them identify resources and strategies to overcome barriers along with overview of our approach to working with students including a one-stop intake process, holistic case management, and intentional follow-up systems. Discussion of services available directly at the college including Campus Cupboards, Loaner Laptops, Emergency Funds. Take away for participants will be a few key practices that they can implement at their campus or get ideas for developing a similar type of model.
