The Organization
Back on My Feet is a nonprofit organization that promotes the self-sufficiency of homeless populations by engaging them in running as a means to build confidence, strength and self-esteem. BOMF does not provide food or shelter, but instead provide a community that embraces equality, respect, discipline, teamwork and leadership. The organization consists of much more than just running: our members participate in a comprehensive program that offers connections to job training, employment and housing. Those benefits are earned by maintaining 90 percent attendance at the morning runs three days a week for our six to nine month program. Back on My Feet has chapters in Philadelphia, Baltimore, Washington D.C., Boston, and Chicago and expansion efforts to Dallas-Ft. The Position
Based in Philadelphia, PA, the Vice President of Communications & Corporate Relations will report to Founder and President, Anne Mahlum. Additional staff contact points will be with COO, Kim Sauer, and Vice President of Growth and Expansion, Sandra Maro. This role will also include supervision of several other staff members, in varying capacities, as detailed below. The VP of Communication and Corporate Relations will have full-time support by the FundRacing and Social Media Manager.
• Develop, lead, monitor and manage ongoing national marketing initiatives to raise the profile of the BOMF brand, drive traffic to BOMF website, blog, twitter, Facebook, etc.
• Create content for national and organization-wide initiatives for web content
o Drive marketing and media around national marketing campaigns (National Sneaker Day, Campaign for National Homeless Awareness Week, FundRacing, etc)
• Utilize creative thinking, problem solving, and analytic skills to direct marketing campaigns that attract and engage a broad audience
• Develop and continuously research/analyze marketing and communications efforts to ensure the highest return on investment and improve efficiency and impact
o Review web tracking statistics, and make recommendations for improving impact
• Manage the development and distribution of electronic newsletters and other marketing and communications vehicles
• Assume responsibility for creation, development and execution of new marketing/media campaigns
• Manage/oversee the following staff members at BOMF:
o Manage the FundRacing and Social Media Manager, specifically with regards to:
? Merchandise selection, ordering and marketing
? Communications and strategy surrounding FundRacing initiatives
o Oversee all local Directors of Communications & Special Events, specifically with regards to:
? Conduct high-level training of BOMF marketing and media to new staff in this role
? New marketing initiatives being executed across all chapters
? Ensuring consistent branding and messaging across all chapters
? Promoting the organization via social marketing, media, the website, etc. in each chapter
• Serve as the point contact for executing national relationships after they have been established
o Manage the FundRacing and Social Media Manager for fulfillment of campaigns, as necessary
o Create and broadcast media surrounding major campaigns from these partnerships
o Works with our national partners to execute our contract with regards to branding, fulfillment, etc.
• Oversee the BOMF website
• Manage the marketing of our merchandise (website, system, etc), in conjunction with management of FundRacing and Social Media Manager
Additional Qualifications:
Qualifications & Experience
• Bachelor’s degree required with a minimum of 5 years relevant experience
• 5 years management experience
o Experience leading a team of five or more people
o Experience in delegation of work
• Ability to develop a strong understanding of the inner-workings of BOMF and what each staff member is
responsible for accomplishing related to marketing, branding, media and communications
• Perform in a high-energy environment and utilize strong organizational skills when faced with multiple time-sensitive priorities – a willingness to “roll-up sleeves” and personally handle all aspects of position
• Strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to think and write creatively
• Substantial experience in marketing a product/brand/idea
• Successful creation and execution of marketing campaign
• 2+ years experience with social marketing strategy: blog platforms, twitter, Facebook, etc.
• 2+ years experience with traditional media relations: television and print
o Experience writing press releases is a plus
• Experience working with companies to execute fulfillment of sponsorship contracts
• Familiarity with running industry a plus
