Cheyney University of Pennsylvania seeks nominations and applications for the position of Vice President for Enrollment Management, Student Affairs and Student Life. This position serves on the Executive Cabinet and reports to the University President. Anticipated start date for this position is July 1, 2009.
The individual we seek will provide leadership, vision and oversight for the Division of Enrollment Management, Student Affairs and Student Life at Cheyney University. Through a wide array of services with emphasis on operational efficiencies, the Vice President will lead the division to promote effective enrollment management, opportunities for leadership, and student services that support the educational goals of Cheyney students. The Vice President will ensure that the Division provides programs designed to help students succeed and grow within a safe and supportive community of scholars in an integrated, coherent fashion.
To this end, the Vice President directly or through direct reports manages and supervises the development and coordination of enrollment processes, extra/co-curricular initiatives, student judicial processes, services and activities to promote the academic, personal and professional development of all Cheyney University students.
To institute and execute effective enrollment management and student retention strategies and practices, the Vice President has the responsibility for coordinating all units within the Division including Admissions, Center for Career and Professional Development, Student Activities, Housing and Residence Life, Student Health Services, Academic Success Center, First Year Experience program, Guidance and Counseling and Financial Aid. His or her primary tasks are to supervise, manage, consult, provide material and resource support to the individuals responsible for each Student Affairs and Student Life unit. The Vice President will oversee data management and reports for these departments to meet the needs of university cabinet and the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education.
Additional key job responsibilities include: developing and implementing appropriate systems to deliver optimal enrollment, coordination of the University’s student retention and persistence initiative, policy development and implementation, budget development and management, student orientation, coordination of best practices in the student judicial process, identifying and securing funding through grants, coordinating summer bridge programs, strategic planning, related committee work and professional development and evaluation of direct reports.
The successful candidate will have earned a doctoral degree in higher education administration, counseling, student personnel or a related area that provides an understanding of student development, student life and student activities. A minimum of five (5) years progressively responsible experience in Enrollment Management and Student Affairs is required. Success in recruiting a diverse range of undergraduate students, from recent high school graduates to adult learners and international students is a must, as is success in recruitment of a diverse population of graduate students. The successful candidate will have a track record of success in recruiting students who have the best chance of taking full advantage of all that the university has to offer. The incumbent will be familiar with and have a track record of success in utilizing best practice in enrollment management. Knowledge of current practices, legal issues, trends in higher education, student affairs program assessment and development, student engagement as well as the ability to lead, manage and motivate a professional and support staff also required. The Vice President is expected to effectively engage students, faculty, and staff personally and in group settings. He or she must have the ability to clearly identify and articulate the Mission and identity of the division of Student Affairs and Cheyney University.
