Vermicompost, Soil Fertility and Aquaponics Production Workshop
September 15-17, 2006
At Growing Power’s National Training Center in Milwaukee, Wisconsin
This 2-day workshop will provide farmers and ranchers with the hands on training to build fertility systems for use in extended season production and whole farm fertility. An optional field trip to Chicago will be offered on Friday, September 15th to visit urban agriculture and wholesale sites.
Workshop Focus Areas:
– Research results of Fort Valley State University Composting and Vermicomposting lab and field tests
– Extended season production using hoop green houses and raised beds (unheated, low cost setup)
– Low cost Aquaponics and tilapia production
– Friday optional field trip to visit urban agriculture projects in Chicago
The goal of the workshop is to enable more farmers and community food systems leaders. The vermicomposting and aquaculture trainings are hands on and provide attendees with the opportunity to learn how to build and maintain these dynamic, risk-mitigating systems. The training will be followed with a production schedule and logistics meeting for farmers, cooperative leaders and outreach educators interested in selling products to the Rainbow Farmers ? Cooperative for the 2007 season and beyond.
The Registration Fee is $300. Per person. Plus $40 if attending Friday?s optional field trip to Chicago, Illinois. Payment due on arrival. Check, Cash or Money order.

* Please indicate if you would like to receive a scholarship for this training.
* Scholarships also provide lodging support for a double room, shared with other participant for 3 nights (rooms are $50 per night, you may pay the difference if you would like a single room, $25 per night)
* Limited travel support is available for exceptional cases.
