Vereda Cultural every 2d Friday
Every second Friday in North Philadelphia the streets are filled with people from all walks just wanting to enjoy an evening filled with art, music, food, shopping and more, in what is known as the Walkway of Art in the Latino Business and Cultural District or in Spanish Vereda Cultural.
Sponsored by three community organizations, Taller Puertorrique?o, Hispanic Association of Contractors and Enterprises (HACE) and Ra?ces Culturales Latinoamericanas, the next Vereda Cultural will take place July 13th from 5:30-7:30 p.m. on 5th Street between Lehigh and Somerset Avenues.
Events include stilt walkers from Naylamp Puppet Theater and musicians from Ra?ces de Borinquen traveling the streets in the area. At Taller?s Galer?a Lorenzo Homar, 2721 N. 5th Street Philadelphia, PA, Domingo Negron, Gilbert Gonzalez and Jose Ali Paz will present their recent works in Three Conversations; a group show featuring recent works by these three artists very active in Philadelphia ‘s Latino community art scene. These three artists reflect a vision of a Latino community that is rich in traditions and bonded by its common heritage. Three Conversations will be running until July, 21st.
At HACE?s Artisans Corner, 2708 N. 5th Street, Dora Viacava and Raul Mux will sell hand made crafts that celebrate the indigenous Peruvian and Guatemalan cultures. Ms. Viacava and Mr. Mux are collectors and merchants of Peruvian and Guatemalan arts and crafts.
At Peter Watts Fitness Studio, 2712 N. 5th Street, Argentinean wildlife artist Carlos Pascual will showcase his brightly colored images of animals and sea life. His works are created to bring awareness about the natural world and its endangered species.
Ra?ces Cultural Latinoamericanas, 2757 N. 5th Street, will present Hernan Rivera. Educator, advocate and realist figurative painter Hernan Rivera is a master of the human figure. His works have been shown by galleries in both Philadelphia and New York.
The evening events continue from 8-10 p.m. at Taller?s Education Building, 2557 N. 5th Street, with Bohemian Night. A group of “Bohemians” invites all to share a song, a poem or an anecdote during an open mic night with friends, good atmosphere, and food.
