Comic Book Club
Do you like cartooning? Comic Books? Create your own superhero and characters through illustrated stories! We’ll show you how to make them leap to life on the page!
Indie Movies for Mighty Minds
Along with watching historically black films that tackle social issues, we’ll engage in thought-provoking conversation and critical thinking. Then, we’ll translate our conversations into written film reviews for publication in Philadelphia and elsewhere.
Mighty Poets
Tell your life story through spoken word. Using Brown Girl Dreaming–a memoir in poems–as our guide, we’ll create a collection of our own poetry and present them in a poetry slam at the end. This is a One Book, One Philadelphia program.
Writing for the Work World
Learn how to write business emails, resumes, cover letters, and elevator pitches and use social media for branding. Throughout this program, you’ll create professional documents you can use, including a presentation to sell yourself.
The Story Machine
Stories start with ideas. In this workshop, we will learn the secrets to turning our ideas into stories. Participants will build stories step-by-step, give each other feedback and prepare a finished story for publication.
College-ready Writing – Essay Support
Join Mighty Writers for one-on-one tutor support to improve an essay for school, scholarships or college. Bring en essay you’re working on, or join us to talk through your brainstorm and prewriting process.
Short Story Publishing
We love, love, love the awesome stories inside our kid’s heads! In this workshop, participants will write and illustrate short stories for submission to a K-5 writing contest or Philadelphia Stories Jr. Magazine. Perfect for budding writers.
