Philly Reuses, http://phillyreuses.org, is seeking volunteer administrators and directors.
Volunteers should be involved with or strongly interested in environmental and social justice issues. Some skills that can be useful are background of involvement in nonprofit volunteerism or administration, public relations, business administration, grant researching and writing, involvement coordinating events, web design, and experience in helping others. People of low-income and low-income background are encouraged to get involved, but this is not a requirement. All interested are encouraged to get involved with the organization.
Here are some of the key positions we are looking to fill:
1) Online Exchange Administrator. This position will only take a few per week. This volunteer will have skills in public relations and possibly be willing to do fundraising. The exchange administrator checks the exchange daily, replies to occasional email inquiries, works occasionally with the software designers, and may get involved with fundraising to support the exchange. It could be helpful to have persuasive writing skills also, but not required. (This position may have potential for pay if you are able to get paying sponsors for the exchange and include reasonable pay for administrator in budget, but sponsor seeking is not required.)
2) Volunteer Events Coordinator. This person should have public relations skills and ability to plan and coordinate events. Persuasive writing skills are also a benefit. This position is part time, probably a few hours per week. This person will write a proposal to the Partnership Recycling Program to set up a recycling drop off point in South Philadelphia that would take place the first and third Saturday mornings each month. This project may need to be coordinated with existing neighborhood associations to be effective. If this endeavor were successful, you would coordinate for people to drop off their used household items and coordinate an appropriate nonprofit recipient/s for these items. Alternatively, you could find other sites to hold exchange events where people can bring or take their items freely. You would coordinate unclaimed items to be taken to appropriate nonprofit recipients. You would also need to be committed to oversee and attend these events. (Although not required, this position has potential for pay if you are able to get sponsors for the events.)
3) Volunteer Public Relations Specialist. This person will coordinate volunteers and attend or coordinate volunteer attendance at events to get the word out about Philly Reuses. This is a part time position that will take a few hours per week. You may also work with the rest of Philly Reuses directors to determine how to best get the word out to fulfill our mission. Public speaking and advertising skills helpful but not necessary to fill position. (Fundraising skills a plus. This position may have potential for getting paid if you are able to generate income for Philly Reuses through coordination of volunteer fundraisers, but this is not required to fill this position.)
4) Volunteer Environmental Educator. This person will develop and coordinate environmental programs, locate or write educational sheets and write website content. This person must also have an interest in social justice. This job will take a few hours per week. (Although not required, this person may be able to generate income if they are able to get donations for writing a newsletter or get ads or sponsors and then write a budget that includes reasonable pay.)
5) Volunteer Furniture Bank admistrator/manager. This person may need approval by a second agency. This person will set up and run a furniture bank (this is like a free thrift store of furniture and house wares for people in need, usually providing free furniture to recently homeless persons that have now acquired a home) and possibly a clothing bank also. This position may have potential for salary if approved. This person should be physically able bodied, willing to work with others, have desire to work with the homeless, poor and disabled, and have good organizational and people skills. There is also potential for salary increase if you are able to research and write grants.
6) Web master, designer. This person will do the design and upkeep for http://www.phillyreuses.org. This should take a few hours per week. (This position has potential for pay if you are able to get sponsors for the site. You might want to do this and be the Philly Reuses Exhange administrator.)
