Volunteer Opportunities

? Mentors: Add more meaning to your college or work experience by volunteering to build a relationship with a young student in need of support. It?s a flexible way to serve your community and it only requires 8 hours/month, an 18 month commitment and one phone call a week to your mentee. College undergraduate and graduate students, professionals and exemplary community members 18 years and older are all welcome.

? Tutors are needed for :
o The Futuros Tutoring Program Monday ?Thursday 3:30pm-7:30pm.Tutors will work one-on-one with high school students to provide home work assistance and support for academic courses in math, writing, SAT prep and literacy. Previous tutoring experience is a plus. A 4 hour commitment per week is required. A twelve week commitment is preferred. Training for volunteers is provided.
o The Youth Education for Tomorrow (YET) Center at Congreso and Fairhill Elementary School. YET is a literacy center for youth 1-3 grades below their reading level. Tutors will work one-on-one with high school students to provide literacy coaching. Program hours are Monday-Thursday 4pm-6pm. Volunteers must commit to at least 2 hours a week. Training for volunteers is provided.
o The North Star After School Programs to help elementary and middle school students complete their homework. The program runs Monday-Friday 3:15-5:30pm. Volunteers must be able to commit to 2 hours a week.

? Data Entry Specialists who have basic computer knowledge and experience in data entry are needed to help staff record program attendance. Must be available at least 2 hours a week Monday-Friday 9:30am-6pm.
? Administrative Aides needed to make phone calls, run errands, and follow up with clients for the Julia De Burgos Beacon Center. Volunteers are needed Monday and Tuesday Noon-4:00pm and Wednesday, Thursday and Friday 10:00am-4:00pm.
? College Mentors are needed to assist high school students through the college application process. Sessions take place Thursdays 4pm-7pm.
