The Bridge Way School is Philadelphia’s only recovery high school for students in grades 9 – 12 who have had a substance use disorder and are now working a recovery program. Bridge Way offers a learning community with a strong academic program in an environment that requires, supports, and honors recovery. Below are the open positions:
Special Education Teacher
The successful candidate will be able to assess student skills: develop IEPs as needed, implement and monitor IEPs, and update IEPs as necessary; plan, organize, and assign activities that are specific to each student’s abilities and learning styles; teach content to entire class, small groups, and one-on-one; and discuss student progress with students, parents, teachers, counselor, and Head of School. This is a full-time position. Preference given to candidates with a strong background in secondary math.
English/language arts teacher
The successful candidate will have experience developing an engaging curriculum that integrates written and oral expression, encourages literacy in major genres including film, and inspires independent reading. In addition, the candidate will have experience with differentiated instruction, and be able to teach students of varying skill and interest levels. This is a part-time position.
Social studies teacher
The successful candidate will have experience developing an engaging and relevant curriculum that inspires student curiosity for both the review of historical periods and current events. In addition, the candidate will have experience with differentiated instruction, and be able to teach students of varying skill and interest levels. This is a part-time position.
Physical Education teacher
The successful candidate will have experience teaching both individual and team skills and demonstrated capacity to motivate students to participate in physical activity and make good choices about their health and well-being. This is a part-time position.
All candidates must be PA certified teachers in secondary education and provide the following clearances: FBI fingerprint, PA child abuse, and PA criminal background check.
Dual certification in another discipline and experience with recovery from substance use disorder or in recovery support services a plus.
