Prometheus is Seeking Interns!
In November of 2013, Prometheus helped hundreds of community groups apply for new low power FM license. Now we are getting them past the final hurtles in the bureaucratic process and preparing them to launch their stations. Prometheus is leading the largest expansion of community radio in U.S. history. We are supporting hundreds of community organizations and social justice groups apply for and build their own radio stations. The Community Radio Organizer will work with groups around the county to get on air and get connected to the growing media justice movement.
We seek to fill the positions below:
Community Radio Organizer
Expectations:
• Commitment to our mission and values.
Mission: The Prometheus Radio Project builds participatory radio as a tool for social justice organizing and a
voice for community expression. To that end, we demystify media policy and technology, advocate for a more just media system, and help grassroots organizations build communications infrastructure to strengthen their communities and movements.
Values: We value radio because it is easy to produce, free to consume, and accessible to more people
across the world than any other mass media. Radio does not require expensive equipment, literacy, or a
broadband connection. We believe in participatory radio because it is a proven tool for movement-building
and cultural expression.

• Clear communication with issues of expectations, scheduling, problem points, and goals

Responsibilities:
• Perform research and assist in the creation of media and educational materials
• Assist with writing articles for monthly newsletters
• Manage relationships with representatives from nonprofit organizations, community groups, and social
justice movements
• Maintain contact data in a constituent relationship management system
• Answer phone calls and emails from potential applicants when staffing help desk
• Assist with planning and logistics for trainings and community meetings
• Participate in conference, and workshop planning
• Support the regular updating of the website and social media sites
• Support social media outreach
• Support coordinating and running trainings
• Documentation of your work in a handbook for future Community Radio Organizers
Qualifications:
• Strong communication (oral and written)
• Ability to work in teams and independently
• Experience working with communities historically marginalized from media access, representation, and
ownership is a plus
• Understanding of existing social justice movements a plus
• Bilingual English/Spanish a plus
• Technologically savvy with social media, mobile technologies, and other geeky stuff (will train if needed)
Development Intern
This position will play a major role in the development and support of an Individual Giving program at the Prometheus Radio Project. The Development Intern will also work to identify general support for the field of emerging community radio stations. This is a great opportunity for an aspiring development generalist.
Responsibilities include:
• Identify potential funders for emerging stations
• Conduct research on LPFM stations currently on the air, and those about to build
• Contact representatives of those stations for interviews
• Produce written articles for our website and Tumblr that reflect our writing style and objectives
• Maintain contact data in a constituent relationship management system
• Manage relationships with representatives from media outlets, nonprofit organizations, community groups, and social justice movements
• Perform research and assist in the creation of media and educational materials
• Support the regular updating of the website and social media sites

• Strong communication (oral and written)
• Ability to work in teams and independently
• Experience working with communities historically marginalized from media access, representation, and
ownership a plus
• Understanding of existing social justice movements in a plus

When: Spring internships are from February 3 to May 2. Summer internships will also be available.
Where: Philadelphia, PA
Time commitment: Flexible, 15-30 hours per week is desired. Please indicate how many hours you can
commit to in your cover letter.
Compensation / Benefits: A limited amount of funding is available to support individuals who have a
financial need that would otherwise prevent participation in this internship. If this is the case for you,
please attach with your application a separate document titled “Financial Need Statement” detailing your
income and expenses and the amount of aid requested. This will not affect your consideration for the
position.
Interns who are university students are eligible for course credits. Other benefits include a rewarding
experience, training, a letter of recommendation, ability to travel with Prometheus, and the option of
paying the premium to access our health care program.
