Servant Year is a faith-based, AmeriCorps, social service program of the Episcopal Diocese of PA and the Lutheran Synod of Southeastern PA. Servant Year (SY) is currently seeking to fill SIX to EIGHT POSITIONS to begin between April-September of 2011 within four various reputable, partnering, Philadelphia social service agencies. Applicants need not be Episcopalian or Lutheran.

POSITION DESCRIPTIONS:

The successful applicants will be placed to provide one of the following services:

* 2 case managers for at-risk youth
* 1 case manager for parents / families
* 1 early educator in urban setting
* 2 case managers for homeless / shelter work
* 2 urban school teacher assistants / after school programming / recess supervision

SY PROGRAM / QUALIFICATIONS:

SY Members are recent college graduates who live in community with each other (8-14 total Members) in two eight-bedroom homes. Successfully placed candidates work 36 hours per week within one of SY’s partnering Philadelphia social service agencies. These agencies have included Covenant House PA, Project H.O.M.E., Lutheran Children and Family Services, Episcopal Community Services, United Communities Southeast Philadelphia, Volunteers of America, Belmont Charter School, Diversified Community Services and others.

Within each placement, SY Members are equipped and positioned to empower a marginalized population in various ways. These populations have include homeless children and youth, homeless adults, at-risk children, youth and families etc.

It is Servant Year’s mission to enable our Members to effectively serve the under-served in Philadelphia.

SY Members commit to working for 51 weeks (1700 total hours) within a given placement before “graduating.” SY graduates often go on to become employed at the agency in which they intern/become employed at another SY partnering agency, enroll into continued education, work is social services, commit to additional volunteer services, work in non-profit management, etc.

COMPENSATION:

* $500 per month stipend
* Health Insurance through AmeriCorps
* Housing
* Paid Utilities
* 3-4 Paid Retreats / year
