WHAT IS THE UPWARD BOUND PROGRAM?
Funded by the U.S. Department of Education, the Temple University Upward Bound Program (UB) is a comprehensive program developed to enhance the academic skills, leadership, and preparation of high school students who have the potential or an interest in attending college. While providing students with academic support, career exploration, technological skill development, UB provides extensive assistance to students in their college preparation, identification, and application process. UB offers a 6-week summer residential program at Temple University, and an after school and Saturday Program during the academic year. Students selected to participate remain in the program until their high school graduation.
WHO IS ELIGIBLE TO APPLY?
◊ Motivated eighth, ninth, and tenth grade students attending or planning to attend Philadelphia Public or Charter High Schools who would like to attend college
◊ Students willing to attend after school and Saturday programming
◊ Students who would like a glimpse of what college life will be like and interact with current college students
WHAT DOES THE PROGRAM OFFER?
Summer residential college experience
After-school academic and pre-professional enrichment
SAT preparation
Scholarship and internship information and application assistance
Junior year summer internship
Academic support for their current high school courses
College visitation program
Supplemental courses in English, Math, Science, and a language
Career development and preparation
Assistance with selecting and applying to college
College preparation and application assistance
Cultural experiences
WHAT DOES THE PROGRAM COST?
Programming and trips are provided to students at no cost. At times students may be asked to bring lunch or money to purchase lunch on trips.
