Position Available
The Philadelphia Unemployment Project is hiring an Unemployed Advocate. The position entails providing advocacy and assistance to unemployed and low income persons facing problems with mortgage foreclosure, lack of health insurance and unemployment compensation.
The Unemployed Advocate will be trained to assist homeowners with appeal hearings for denials of state mortgage assistance. S/he will also assist uninsured persons to secure health care through the full range of options, from hospital admittance, to public health centers, to low cost insurance plans. S/he will represent Unemployment Compensation claimants at appeal hearings.
The Unemployed Advocate will assist in involving clients in efforts by the Philadelphia Unemployment Project to win reforms in programs of importance to the unemployed such as health care access, foreclosure prevention and other issues as they develop.
Qualifications: Committed to economic justice. Good people skills. At least one year experience in social service delivery is required. Experience in housing counseling or health care systems would be ideal but not necessary. BA preferred but not required.
Salary commensurate with experience. Excellent benefits, including fully paid health insurance, dental, eye glass plan, 403(b) pension, liberal holiday and vacation days.
