Two New COVID19 Media and News Outlets Created by Students

Posted by Temple University on April 7, 2020

With the increasing coverage of the Coronavirus COVID19 on campus, throughout the city, and throughout the country, students are constantly receiving updates from local and campus officials, sharing information, and even writing their own pieces. Students aimed to create a trusted place where students near campus, as well as North Philadelphia residents and community members can access information about the campus and the city, and even have a place to reach out to share their own stories – in English or Spanish.

With these goals in mind, Klein College of Media & Communication students and staff created two COVID19 media and news outlets:

  • Temple University student media organizations joined together to build an inclusive reporting collaborative for the first time in the university’s history. There has also been a dedicated effort to translate the articles and media into Spanish by our bi-lingual students. Find all this collaborative information and reporting on COVID19 from The Temple News, WHIP Radio, Temple Update, TUTV, and Lo Ultimo here at COVID19TU.com.

  • Klein College has been dedicated to covering stories from streets and sidewalks throughout Philadelphia’s diverse neighborhoods through our undergraduate and graduate courses, including the Philadelphia Neighborhoods Senior Capstone. This work is expanding to include not only Philadelphia neighborhoods and suburbs, but to share stories from across the country, wherever our students are located right now. This site is new, but stay up to date and even contact the editor to submit your own story here at ReportingOnCOVID19.com.

Please feel free to take a moment to support our students by checking out these two sites and feel free to share them with any residents, community members, and partners that you work with. We’d love to hear feedback about the sites and even find ways to elevate their voices through new stories. Contact Kalie Wertz at tul52279@temple.edu.
