Leeway Foundation invites applications for Transformation Award program

The Leeway Foundation supports women and trans artists and cultural producers working in communities at the intersection of art, culture, and social change. Through its grantmaking and other programs, the foundation promotes artistic expression that amplifies the voices of those on the margins, promotes sustainable and healthy communities, and works in the service of movements for economic and social justice.

To that end, the foundation invites applications for its annual Transformation Award program, which provides unrestricted grants of $15,000 annually to women, trans, and gender-nonconforming artists and cultural producers living in Greater Philadelphia who create art for social change and have done so for the past five years or more, demonstrating a commitment to art for social change work. The Transformation Award is open to individual artists and cultural producers creating art for social change in any medium, including traditional and nontraditional and multimedia and experimental forms.

The Leeway Foundation is a trans-affirming organization committed to gender self-determination. It uses the term “trans” in its most inclusive sense to encompass transsexual, transgender, genderqueer, Two-Spirit people, and anyone whose gender identity or gender expression is non-conforming and/or different from their gender assigned at birth.

To be eligible, candidates must be a woman and/or trans person who is at least 18 years of age and has lived for the past two years or more in Bucks, Camden, Chester, Delaware, Montgomery, or Philadelphia County.

Applying for the award is a two-stage process. Stage one applications are due May 15, 2022, and upon review, selected applicants will be invited to submit a stage two application.

For compete program guidelines and application instructions, see the Leeway Foundation website.

Deadline: May 15, 2022 (Stage One)
