Posted by on February 25, 2005
Orleans Technical Institute, a program of JEVS in Northeast Philadelphia, has special funding to train 60 low-income to moderate income homeowners in Philadelphia. This free 36-hour program consists of twelve three-hour sessions conducted two evenings a week over six weeks.
The program teaches hands-on basic repair skills such as plumbing including replacing toilets, faucets, and garbage disposals, carpentry including drywall repair, wallpapering, and painting, basic electricity skills including replacing receptacles, and other skills such as floor tiling and screen repair. Upon completion of the program, each graduate receives a new tool box filled with tools they can use in the home. The first classes start the week of March 7. If you would like to apply for this program, please call Lillian Bender at (215) 728-4709. The school is convenient to public transportation anywhere in the city.
