Art as Metaphor
When: Saturday October 12, 2013, 8:30am-4:30pm
Description: One of the most powerful aspects of the art-making process is its ability to serve as a metaphor for life lessons and character building. As well, children & youth use the metaphoric nature of art-making to express thoughts and feelings that are difficult to express verbally. This training will assist artists, teachers, therapists and other youth-serving professionals to construct & engage art-making experiences in intentional ways to facilitate 1) healing & well-being; 2) the development of wisdom, patience, goal-setting, and asking for help; 3) as well as to address issues such as grief, overcoming life obstacles (resilience), and accepting others who are different. The session includes didactic learning, and is highly experiential. Participants should wear clothing appropriate for working with paints.
