Training and Information Centers and Programs for Parents with Children with Disabilities – Jun 22

The U.S. Department of Education issued a notice inviting applications for new awards for fiscal year 2020 for Training and Information for Parents of Children with Disabilities—Parent Training and Information Centers and the Parent Information and Training Program. According to the notice, these centers promote the effective education of children with disabilities by “strengthening the role and responsibility of parents and ensuring that families of such children have meaningful opportunities to participate in the education of their children at school and at home.”
Applications are due by June 22, 2020.
Purpose of Programs: The purpose of the Training and Information for Parents of Children with Disabilities—Parent Training and Information Centers program, CFDA number 84.328M, is to ensure that parents of children with disabilities receive impartial training and objective information to help improve outcomes and raise expectations for their children. The Parent Information and Training program, CFDA number 84.235F, is designed to support projects that provide impartial training and objective information to enable individuals with Start Printed Page 22154disabilities, and the parents, family members, guardians, advocates, or other authorized representatives of the individuals (hereafter collectively referred to as “individuals with disabilities and their families”), to participate more effectively with professionals in meeting the vocational, independent living, and rehabilitation needs of individuals with disabilities. This program is designed to meet the unique training and information needs of those individuals who live in the area to be served, particularly those who are members of populations that have been unserved or underserved by programs under the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, as amended (Rehabilitation Act).
