Community College of Phila. offering free job training for unemployed
The Community College of Philadelphia is accepting applications from unemployed workers for free job-training courses in the manufacturing, energy and health-care industries this summer.
The federally subsidized program, Trade Adjustment Assistance Community College and Career Training, will help place workers with employers in the region. Graduates of the manufacturing and energy programs will receive industry-approved certificates.
The training program is a “phenomenal opportunity” for unemployed Philadelphians looking to become more competitive, said Michelle Williams, the program’s director.
“Not only will they be receiving training, but we will also be supporting them as they search for jobs,” she said. “There is definitely a need here in Pennsylvania for more skilled workers.”
Applicants must be unemployed and have a high school degree or GED equivalent. The manufacturing and energy programs require a basic familiarity with construction or related fields, while the health-care curriculum is designed for people new to the industry.
